Sulu Images! 16 December 2007

MODIS Aqua chlorophyll a image shows that the high chlorophyll from coastal areas were advected to the center of Sulu Sea. A interesting low chlorophyll a area was observed at the lower right of the image in the Sulawesi Sea.



Warmer SST in the Sulawesi Sea compare to the Sulu Sea.

I dont know much about the Sulu-Sulaweisi Archipelago. After the incident of the Urea Dumping Plan in Sulu Sea recently, I think we need some basic understanding on this complex area. The satellite based observation could provide an opportunity.

Historical 4, 5 and proxy 6, 7, 8, 9 records reveal changes in the behaviour of the El Niño Southern Oscillation and the Asian monsoon over recent decades 10, 11, 12 .
